Two UK hotels have rolled out a new emoji-based menu that lets guests order room service with emojis - the ultimate convenience when you're feeling too hungover to talk Did sir order an emoji sandwich?

We all know it’s only a matter of time till emojis take over the world, but until then we’ll have to make do with the little critters sorting out our room service.

Two hotels in the UK are now offering an emoji-based menu, meaning when you’re hungry and can’t be bothered to talk to an actual human on the phone you can ping off a couple of emojiis and wait for that knock at the door. 

Aloft Hotels rolled out Text it, Get It (TiGi for short) in a single New York hotel in October and have now shipped the concept over to their London Excelsior and Liverpool locations.

"Our guests can now talk to us like they talk to each other," Paige Francis, vice president of global marketing for Starwood Hotels, told Mashable.  

Along with a “munchies pack” - snickers bar, chocolate brownie, can of coke and bag of crisps, there’s a “hangover pack” - vitamin water, banana, bacon roll, and four other specialty kits.

But forget trying to string your own orders together – you can only order from a special emoji menu. You send your emojis, surname and room number and front desk quickly rushes your order up.  

“At Aloft, we’re always looking for ways to shake up the hotel stay”, Francis, said.

“We look to consumer behaviour and think about how to integrate these trends into the Aloft experience. The rise of emoji was a logical next step, the perfect new wave of guest communications.”

Cutting edge and all but we can see gran and gramps struggling with this one…..
